Maps, photographs, postcards, and public records preserve Shamokin buildings that disappeared, including the Eagle Silk Mill, Victoria Theatre, hotels, factories, and downtown stores.

A City Changes Building by Building
Demolition, fire, industrial change, and new construction removed many places that once organized daily life. Their absence can make a familiar street difficult to read without photographs or maps.
The Mill and the Theatre
The Eagle Silk Mill study documents a major textile complex, while federal records mark the Victoria Theatre’s removal from the National Register after demolition. Each represents a different kind of lost landmark: one industrial, one cultural.
Finding What Is No Longer There
Sanborn maps, postcards, and local newspaper images let visitors place vanished buildings back into the street grid. Preserved objects—including the Eagle Silk Mill bell and sculptural eagle—carry part of those places into the present.
