Information the website receives
Ordinary web requests may include technical information such as an IP address, browser type, requested page, and time of access. Cloudflare processes this information to deliver and protect the website. If privacy-respecting web analytics are enabled, they are used to understand aggregate site performance and usage—not to build advertising profiles.
Community contributions
The contribution form collects the name and email you provide, an optional telephone number, item description, ownership and copyright information, permission choices, credit preference, and related notes. These submissions enter a private editorial queue and are never published automatically. Contact information is used to review the contribution, arrange file transfer when needed, clarify rights, and follow up about historical evidence.
Turnstile and abuse prevention
Cloudflare Turnstile verifies that contribution requests are legitimate. The server also applies a short-term rate limit using a salted one-way hash of the requesting network address; it does not store the raw address in the rate-limit table.
Favorites and offline pages
Saved-story titles are stored only in this browser’s local storage. When you save a story, the service worker also caches that public page on this device for offline reading. Favorites are not synced to the server. Removing a favorite requests removal of its offline page; clearing browser site data removes favorites and caches.
Location
The website does not request precise location and does not collect location history. Its historical map can be browsed without location permission. Walking tours and location-dependent tour features belong to the mobile app and are governed by the app’s platform permissions.
Sharing and sale
Shamokin Stories does not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers needed to host, secure, and operate the site, or disclosed when legally required. A contributor’s name or credit line is displayed only when the material is accepted and the permission review supports publication.
Your choices
You may decline public display, request contact before display, remove favorites through the Saved Stories page, or clear this site’s browser data. To ask about a submission or rights issue, use the protected contribution form and select the correction or media-rights option; include the private reference if you have one.
