    USS Shamokin I

    Shamokin I was an iron sidewheel double-ender commissioned after Civil War hostilities for South Atlantic service. The vessel was commissioned on October 17, 1865 and decommissioned on December 24, 1868. Its namesake referred to the older Indigenous settlement, and its principal service involved diplomacy and protection rather than Civil War combat.
