Shamokin Iron Works
John Mullen & Son's advertisement offered steam engines, coal-mining machinery, boilers, castings and forgings at Independence and Franklin Streets.
Shamokin Iron Works offered machinery for the coal district in its advertisement in the 1895–97 directory. Steam engines headed the list, followed by coal breakers, mine pumps, mine fans and drift cars. John Mullen & Son were named as proprietors, with the works at the corner of Independence and Franklin Streets.
The advertisement also called attention to boiler making and to castings and forgings of all kinds. A large engine illustration gave the machinery a prominent place on the page, while the lower lines widened the firm's offer from finished equipment to metalworking services.
