Some details remain uncertain

The Fairview Fire Company band headed its company's delegation through Hazleton in the Six-County firemen's parade on June 18, 1925. The News-Dispatch reported the next day that Fairview received a $50 second prize for having the second-largest firemen's band in the procession. It was an award for the size of the band, not a ranking of musical performance.

The newspaper nevertheless praised both the musicians' appearance and their playing. Its account described uniformed Fairview members receiving repeated ovations as the long procession moved through Hazleton's principal streets. A separate Shamokin Band, led by Professor Robert O. Thomas, accompanied Maine Fire Company and was also favorably received.

More than forty fire companies participated, according to the report's continuation, and the association distributed $2,500 in prizes among the marching companies. Fairview's $50 award was one result within that larger gathering. The parade gave fire-company musicians a public role alongside the delegations they led, and brought two distinct local bands into the same regional celebration.
