Cruikshank Buys the Former Railroad Shops in Sunbury

August 4, 1937

A Shamokin inventor's heating-equipment business announced the purchase on August 4, 1937.

Some details remain uncertain

V. M. Cruikshank, identified by the News-Dispatch as a Shamokin inventor, purchased former Pennsylvania Railroad shops in Sunbury in August 1937. The newspaper reported on August 4 that the deed had passed that morning after negotiations extending over some time.

Cruikshank had already been manufacturing heating equipment in Sunbury for several years. His furnace was known as the Imp. The announcement said the existing three-story factory had become inadequate for growing production demands.

The purchase offered a larger industrial setting for that business. The report records the transaction and Cruikshank's explanation for it; it does not establish when the new factory began operating or how much equipment it ultimately produced.
