Some details remain uncertainFire companies marched through Shamokin on Saturday, July 4, 1964, in the Six-County Firemen's Association convention parade. The procession was part of the Centennial's closing observance.
The News-Dispatch singled out West End Fire Company of Kulpmont. Its caption reported one hundred men in line and first prize in the category for the largest uniformed company with music. The company's ladies auxiliary marched directly behind the firemen.
The fire-company procession was distinct from Friday's baby, pet, and youth parade. Together they occupied the Centennial's final days, but each gathered different participants and gave spectators a different kind of procession.
