C. C. Leader Closes, and Its Stock Goes to Wolfe’s

April 17, 1937

A brief April 1937 announcement marked the closing of an established Shamokin store and the sale of its inventory.

Some details remain uncertain

The C. C. Leader Store discontinued business at the close of its Saturday trading hours in April 1937. The Sunbury Daily's April 20 report places that closing on April 17 and describes Leader's as an old-established Shamokin business.

H. K. Leader announced that the entire stock had been sold to Wolfe's Department Store of Shamokin. The brief notice concerned the merchandise remaining in the store, not the sale of its building.

For shoppers, the announcement marked the disappearance of one familiar business and the transfer of its inventory to another. The notice did not explain the terms of the transaction or what would happen to employees and premises.
