March 25, 1957
The morning of March 25, 1957, brought elementary and high-school pupils into the new annex gymnasium.
Some details remain uncertainShamokin's students had the first part in the dedication of their high school's new annex. On the morning of March 25, 1957, approximately nineteen hundred elementary and high-school pupils assembled in its gymnasium for the opening program, according to the News-Dispatch.
A photograph showed the speaker's platform as Frank S. Doerrman of Reading addressed the gathering. The caption identified him as national president of the Patriotic Order, Sons of America. The view captured the new room in use, with pupils gathered for a ceremony about the school they would share.
The newspaper called the morning assembly a prelude to a public program planned for eight that evening. Its photograph records the students' completed morning gathering; the evening ceremony was still ahead when the account appeared.
