July 19, 1941
An official Army history records the medical section's July 19, 1941 activation, warehouse space, international-aid mission, and February 1942 closure.
Some details remain uncertainShamokin had a place in the Army's wartime medical-supply organization as well as in the histories of its servicemen. The official Army history Medical Supply in World War II, published in 1968, records the activation of the Shamokin General Depot's Medical Section on July 19, 1941. Its retrospective chronology places the section among medical depots and medical sections of general depots active during the war years.
The history lists 35,000 square feet of warehouse storage space for the Shamokin medical section. Its assigned mission was described as an International Aid Depot. The entry identifies a supply role: warehouse space in Shamokin assigned to the Army's medical organization.
The same chronology records the section's closure in February 1942, without naming a day. Its documented active period therefore ran from the summer of 1941 into the following winter. This brief operation is a distinct part of Shamokin's wartime history, separate from the public fundraising and commemorative activities through which residents also participated in the war years.
