Parishioners filled the new Edgewood school's gymnatorium for its dedication on September 13, 1959.
Some details remain uncertainThe gymnatorium of Our Lady of Lourdes High School filled with parishioners on September 13, 1959. The dedication brought clergy, officials, teachers, students, and members of nine Shamokin Deanery parishes to the new school in Edgewood. The News-Dispatch estimated attendance at upwards of two thousand.
Four bishops took part: George L. Leech, Lawrence F. Schott, Henry T. Klonowski, and Howard J. Carroll. Leech was the principal dedicatory speaker. Sisters from several orders sat in the front of the assembly while participating clergy occupied the stage.
The ceremony included a flag raising, cornerstone laying, and Leech's blessing of the interior. Photographs recorded both the crowded combination gymnasium and auditorium and scenes from the dedication. For the participating parishes, the day marked the formal dedication of a shared secondary school.
