Some details remain uncertainIn a 1968 recollection, Joseph Zupicich described serving aboard the Carpathia when it rescued survivors of the Titanic. The account brought an ocean story into a Shamokin life, but it was a memory recorded many years later rather than a contemporary crew record.
His recollections also followed the journey inland. He described coming to Shamokin with Vlatich and Pereich and finding work in mining. A recalled injury in 1921 cost him his left arm, marking a profound change from the work he had known.
A grocery business belonged to the next part of that life, although the accounts do not agree on its dates. His recollections connect a life at sea with the work and difficulties of settling inland. The connection to a famous rescue should not eclipse the migration, injury, and daily work that followed.
