Mining Lives on the Wall
It memorializes Sam Vetovich, who owned a bootleg mine, and Clarence 'Mooch' Kashner, a miner, mine inspector, and mine-safety advocate.
Reading the Mural
Bootleg mining grew when unemployed miners created small coal holes, breakers, and trucking operations. Clarence 'Mooch' Kashner's career connected mining labor with inspection, rescue, and safety advocacy.
