Modesto Bernard Foieri

A Shamokin-area coal operator and entrepreneur who founded Doodle Bug Park, the family amusement park that operated from 1958 through 1976.

A Name With Several Spellings

Modesto Bernard Foieri appears in local records as Modest, Mode, and Modes Foieri. Those variations refer to the same Shamokin-area businessman.

Work in the Coal Region

A 1948 Pennsylvania Department of Mines report identifies Foieri as general manager of the Lower Region Coal Company and gives the company a Shamokin mailing address.

Building Doodle Bug Park

Foieri opened Doodle Bug Park on June 22, 1958. The park entertained generations of area families until 1976, and surviving ride records and memorabilia continue to carry its story.
