M60A3 Tank Monument

This M60A3 tank was acquired by the City of Shamokin from Fort Indiantown Gap and placed on West Water Street more than twenty years ago.

From Fort Indiantown Gap to Shamokin

The M60 series was introduced by the U.S. Army in 1960 as a Cold War main battle tank. The A3 version added equipment such as laser rangefinding and thermal sighting before the M1 Abrams replaced it as the Army's front-line tank.

A Cold War Vehicle

Displayed here in Shamokin, the vehicle serves as a permanent tribute to all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Why This Memorial Matters

Fort Indiantown Gap officials facilitated the transfer of the tank to Shamokin. The M60A3 represents the late development of the M60 line before the Abrams era. Its public display turns military hardware into a local site of remembrance.
