The Centennial Week program scheduled its opening for Saturday, June 27, with the coronation of Miss Centennial at the Victoria Theatre at 8 p.m., giving the citywide celebration a specific downtown opening night.
A Week of Parades and Music
The next six days were scheduled to mix worship, merchants’ events, concerts, a police rodeo, veterans’ and industrial parades, a baby and pet parade, and a centennial ball. The program shows a celebration assembled from many civic groups rather than one continuous procession.
July Fourth
The final Saturday schedule began with the 11 a.m. dedication of the John F. Kennedy Memorial, continued with a firemen’s parade, and closed with fireworks at 10 p.m. The sequence linked national remembrance, local volunteer service, and the centennial finale.
