W. H. Boyd, Directory Publisher
W. H. Boyd advertised a regional directory-publishing concern from a Reading home office.
W. H. Boyd advertised directory publishing from a home office at 1411 Perkiomen Avenue in Reading. Two notices in the 1895–97 Shamokin directory gave that same name, service and address. One was a compact office announcement; the other presented a wider catalog of publications.
The catalog named Reading, Harrisburg, Williamsport, Lebanon, Pottsville, Norristown, Pottstown and Shamokin, as well as the Cumberland Valley and Syracuse, New York. It also promoted a Central Pennsylvania gazetteer and business directory for principal towns along the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad.
Both advertisements used the same illustrated trade-mark emblem. The pair places Shamokin within a publishing market that reached beyond the city, while identifying Reading as the concern's home office.
