Opening a Downtown Theatre

The Victoria Theatre was built in 1917 and opened in January 1918, adding a substantial entertainment venue to downtown Shamokin.

A Place for Public Entertainment

For generations, the Victoria belonged to the city’s theater-going culture and to a downtown shaped by shops, restaurants, and evening crowds.

Demolition and Delisting

After the building was demolished, the National Park Service recorded its removal from the National Register on May 18, 2004. Photographs and records now preserve the theatre’s place in city life.
